My wife and I woke up early on November 4th to participate in this year's historic Presidential election. Lines for our voting place wrapped down and around the building (view from Columbia Street shown in the photo). But the entire process from entering the line to leaving with our "I Voted" sticker took one hour. I have always loved election days in Adams Morgan. The diversity of the people that live here is never more evident. It is fun to meet people in line, as well as catch up neighbors and friends. My wife and I chatted with a couple who have lived in Adams Morgan since the 80s. They commented on the work being done on the theatre at 18th and Euclid (the former discount store) and the CVS next door. They told us before the CVS, there were several independent pharmacies in the neighborhood.
My wife and I waited up that night as late as we could; there were still a few important states that had yet to be called, but it looked like Obama was well ahead. At around 11:30, we were woken up by cheering and car horns. We sleepily turned to eachother and murmured - yep, he clinched it.
