My husband and I dined at Himalayan Heritage Restaurant - a new Nepalese and Indian restaurant at 2305 18th Street in Adams Morgan. When we arrived around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night, the restaurant was quite busy with several large parties. After we are seated, we are offered a free appetizer of soy beans and red onions seasoned with olive oil and herbs - a nice light start to the meal. The wine list contains a good selection of wines by the glass - including a number of California wines. We ordered the bread basket with sauces to tide us over until our entrees arrived, which included buttered Naan, garlic Naan, and Naan with onions.
I had the tandoor grilled vegetable kabob, which included large chunks of red pepper, green pepper, carrots, califlower, potato, onions, and paneer (cheese) seasoned with yogurt, ginger, and garlic. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and was very flavorful. My husband ordered the chicken vindaloo, which was chicken in a spicy, red curry sauce with potatoes. He said it was good, but very spicy - so not for a weak palate!
The staff was very nice. The space is well-decorated with warm colors and interesting art. My husband and I love Indian food, and we noticed they deliver free, so if the winter weather keeps us from going out, we will definately be ordering from this wonderful restaurant again!
p.s. Our receipt contains a coupon for a free glass of house wine, beer, or soft drink - one of the many lovely touches this restaurant provides. Check out the website: www.himalayanheritagedc.com
